Happy Hump Day! I don't know about anyone else, but shopping always seems funnest when the seasons change, and apparently I'm lagging behind because I'm FINALLY feeling like it's truly summer.
I don't want you to get the idea that I'm some kind of crazed shopping glutton . . .
. . . but with the amount of makeup experimenting I've been doing lately, I'm starting to feel like my bedroom is Sephora without the cash registers.
In fact, I realized the other day that I have enough waterproof eyeliner to last me through a month-long "Little Women," "Steel Magnolias," and "The Notebook" binge on a continuos loop and still not have enough tears to rationalize that big of a collection. Total overkill. So I decided I need to trim the fat. And actually not just with my makeup collection, but with any of the "fluff stuff" in my life. Because I would have no earthly business spending a month of my life on the couch watching tearjerkers to test out my waterproof liner.
So I'm going to do something that I wanted to share with you guys in case anybody wants to jump in and do it with me. I'm calling it a Balance Challenge. It's not so much a challenge, though, since I don't really know what the finish line is, but it's a new policy I'm adopting, I guess.
I'm going to start with a mass exodus of clothes / jewelry / products I don't use and things I have extra / excess of (I'm looking at you, waterproof eyeliner). And when the purge has been purged, I'm just going to focus on maintaining balance.
So if you want to play along, the next time you buy a lipstick, give one away. The next time you buy a dress, give one away, etc.
And like I said, this concerns fluff stuff, so NON-necessities. I'm not going to get a tank of gas and give away a tank of gas or I'd literally never get anywhere. :)
Next order of business: Below are some of the things I have and absolutely love, and then below that are some things I've been seeing and getting starry-eyed over in my summer shopping.
And if I end up buying any of the items on my lustworthy list, you have my word that I'll adhere to the rule of the Balance Challenge and give something away. Otherwise, I'll just be sitting right here drooling over how they look in 2-D on my laptop screen.
Also, just a quick little side note here: I hope you guys don't feel like I'm ever telling you to buy things. I definitely hope that my reviews are helpful if you're considering something, but a lot of the looks I do are kind of chameleons in that, a lot of times, you don't need THAT EXACT product to recreate the look.
For instance, I might recommend a certain lip liner, but honestly, half the time I use an eyebrow pencil, and it does the job just as well. Also, if your lipstick is the color you want your blush to be that day, it works as a pretty effective makeshift cream blush; I use that one all the time. You can use your bronzer as an eyeshadow, your eyeshadow to fill in your brows, or your white nail polish as a teeth whitener . . . JOKING ON THAT ONE! But I know someone who actually did that way back in the day, and I had to give her crap.
On that note, when I finish with eye shapes (or as another interrupter), I'm going to do a "Topsy Turvy" style post where I use a full collection of products but NOT how you're supposed to use them. Like I've said many times before, and will probably say many times again, I LOVE rule breakers when it comes to makeup.
